These episodes can vary in length, but they normally last from a few weeks to several months.\u00a0In between, there are periods where you feel \u201cnormal.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>Man\u00eda<\/h2>\n<p>During a <a href=\"https:\/\/screening.mhanational.org\/es\/content\/what-mania\/\">manic episode<\/a>, you might experience some of the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>tener mucha energ\u00eda<\/li>\n<li>feeling unstoppable<\/li>\n<li>racing thoughts<\/li>\n<li>no dormir<\/li>\n<li>impulsive behavior, like spending too much money, having risky sex, or <a href=\"https:\/\/screening.mhanational.org\/es\/content\/how-can-i-cope-with-bipolar-disorder-and-addiction\/\">abusing drugs and alcohol<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/screening.mhanational.org\/es\/content\/what-is-psychosis\/\">psychotic symptoms<\/a>\u2014paranoia, seeing or hearing things that other people don\u2019t<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You may have noticed that some of those symptoms sound like fun, while others sound pretty scary. Most people feel great during manic episodes\u2014but often make poor decisions that they regret later. During a really serious manic episode, <a href=\"https:\/\/screening.mhanational.org\/es\/content\/do-i-need-to-go-to-the-hospital\/\">people are sometimes hospitalized<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hipoman\u00eda<\/strong> is a less intense form of mania. The symptoms are similar, but its impact on people\u2019s daily lives is not as severe. Hypomania also never includes psychosis.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s important to note that these are drastic changes from what a person is typically like. If you <em>siempre<\/em> speak quickly, make impulsive decisions, and don\u2019t sleep much, those aren\u2019t signs of a manic episode. (They could just be personality traits, or they could be signs of another mental health condition, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/screening.mhanational.org\/es\/content\/what-is-adhd\/\">TDAH<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<h2>Depresi\u00f3n<\/h2>\n<p>During a depressive episode, you might experience some of the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>feeling worthless, numb, or empty<\/li>\n<li>low energy<\/li>\n<li>changes in sleep and eating habits<\/li>\n<li>thoughts of death or suicide<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These symptoms also appear in <a href=\"https:\/\/screening.mhanational.org\/es\/content\/are-there-types-depression\/\">\u201cregular\u201d depression<\/a>. But people with bipolar disorder are at a higher risk of suicide than other people who experience depression.<\/p>\n<h2>Other aspects of bipolar disorder<\/h2>\n<p>Periods of mania and depression usually last weeks or even months. When someone experiences four or more of these episodes within a single year, this is called <strong>rapid cycling<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Tambi\u00e9n es posible experimentar man\u00eda y depresi\u00f3n al mismo tiempo.
